Tomorrow it’ll be September! Can you believe it?! While it’s still not officially fall yet, I always feel like the end of August means that summer is coming to an end. It makes me a little sad to know the long summer days will soon be over, but I look forward to the fall season.
For our September 2017 calendar, we thought we would ease into autumn colors with a flower in a light peach shade. There are so many beautiful blooms that fall in this palette (just see our peach flowers page!) and I chose a flower type we haven’t featured in awhile: carnations!
Carnations are the flower I feel everyone loves to hate. I blame the overuse of them in the 80s and early 90s for their long-standing reputation of being un-chic and outdated. But that’s because most people are thinking of white, red or pink carnations mixed with baby’s breath and ferns. Carnations are so much more than that!
Carnations come in a wide range of colors, from deep dark purple to the gorgeous pink peach carnation we feature in our September 2017 calendar. You can see just some of the beautiful colors in our carnation collection.
Also gone are the days of outdated arrangements using carnations. When incorporated with the right mix of other flowers, carnations can be a chic addition to any arrangement! Just take a look at some of today’s top floral designers and you’ll likely spot a carnation or two tucked into a bouquet. You can also check out some of our DIY tutorials that include carnations for some inspiration.
I hope you have a great start to your September and enjoy the upcoming Labor day weekend! Here in Los Angeles, we’re going through a heat wave and September is usually one of the hottest months of the year. So, we’ll be sweating it out here and looking forward to cooler fall days ahead!
