Well folks, we’re at the last month of the year! It’s time for our December 2017 calendar and I can’t believe that this year is almost over! I don’t know about you, but it’s been a doozy of a year and so I’m welcoming 2018 with open arms!
For our calendar this month, we wanted to feature a seasonal flower and amaryllis is one of our favorite winter season blooms! Some of you may think they only come in white and red colors, but amaryllis come in a range of shades like peach, green, burgundy and blush pink. There are even special varieties like double bloom amaryllis (nymph series) and also Cybister amaryllis where the blooms have a thinner shape.
For our December 2017 calendar, we feature a gorgeous dark pink amaryllis called Hercules. Isn’t it stunning? Amaryllis typically have at least 2 (but usually 3 or more) blooms per stem. You can often find amaryllis bulbs for sale during the winter season and it’s fun to watch the plant grow and eventually bloom. However, for those who want instant gratification or if you want to use amaryllis in a wedding or event, you can order them fresh cut.
Fresh cut amaryllis is always shipped in a closed bud stage and you can learn more about this process and how amaryllis bloom on our blog. We also have posts on cut amaryllis care and handling and several DIY tutorials for bouquets and centerpieces that feature amaryllis. Keep an eye out for another DIY tutorial later this month where we’ll show you how to make a centerpiece with the dark pink amaryllis featured in our calendar this month.
If you want to decorate your home or holiday event with amaryllis this season, you can shop our amaryllis collection on our site. We have a range of colors available and if you have any questions, just drop us a line or leave a comment below.
We wish you all our best this holiday season and hope you enjoy some time to celebrate with friends and family. Happy Holidays!
